Principal's Message
Dear Parents

I am writing this having just enjoyed the “End of Unit Presentation” by the Year 2 children. It was terrific to see the children present their journey of learning in a variety of ways including ICT, drama and music, visual arts, dance or through puppets.  The children confidently presented their journey twice, once to their parents and then once to other Year 2 parents. This is not an easy thing for Year 2 children to do but they coped admirably. My thanks all the teachers involved and also to the Year 2 parents who not only took the time to support their own child but they also took the time to support other children in Year 2 as well.

As you know we are in the process of reviewing our homework policy. The staff have spent several weeks now discussing different homework models and our philosophy around this. We have come up with a model which will be started at the beginning of term 2. We will trial the new model for the term and then seek parent and child feedback. Please appreciate we are not taking an anti-homework stance but we are taking an anti-excessive homework stance. We need to make it clear that we will not be giving out “busy” work to keep the children occupied after school. The homework or “home learning” as it will be called from now on will continue to focus on Language (spelling and reading) and Maths but it will also allow the children to select other tasks from a grid that are designed to develop the “whole child”. We are just finalising the wording of the policy now and it, along with more information regarding the grid, will be shared with the community as soon as it is ready so everyone is aware of the expectations around this “home learning” trial.

Have a great weekend everybody.

PTA News
Dear Parents

Events
We look forward to seeing all of you at the Nativity Carol Service at St Johns Cathedral at 6pm on December 13th. The PTA will host drinks in the garden afterwards and the school choir will contribute minced pies and cookies, for the whole school community to join and celebrate together.

We are looking forward to a relatively quiet month of December and getting ready for the New Year.  Our next official event will be Bingo Night on February 10th.

Fundraising
In the meantime, if any of the school community is involved in businesses that have samples or end of line goods, we would be very happy to receive these as another way of fundraising.

At other schools donations have included camping equipment, rucksacks, lunchboxes, stationery and Christmas decorations. These can be sold at school or at events and are a great way of helping the PTA fund.

Please contact either Kate, Nicci or the PTA Administrator Jackie To (pta@peakschool.net)if you can help in this way.

Donations
We recently decided to donate 12 iPads for the exclusive use of the Mandarin department, to enhance the children learning levels. They will utilise apps ranging from simple character tracing to sophisticated word recognition and prompting suitable for more advanced speakers and all children will benefit from their use.

We are working on spending plans for the coming school year.

Uniform for Cooler Weather
The weather is changing and turning cooler so you may wish to purchase uniform items for your child to keep them warm. As weather is very changeable in Hong Kong we do not have a separate Summer and Winter Uniform and allow parents and children to decide which uniform items are appropriate. Just a reminder of items your child may like to wear in the coming months to keep warm:

Boys grey long trousers
Girls green long trousers
PE long green tracksuit pants
Sweatshirt
Fleece
Beanie

The uniform order form can be downloaded from the school website at

School Bus
Please be kindly notified that we will deposit the posted cheques for second term on 8th Dec 2011. Please complete the attached activity form once you know the timetable.
