 Principal's Message
Dear Parents

Our Year 3, 4 5 and 6 children have now completed their overnight camps for the year. I have been thoroughly impressed with the attitude of the children whilst on these camps. What impressed me the most, apart from the level of behaviour expected, was the fact that the children attempted all the challenges with little fuss and supported those that needed that extra little bit of encouragement.

It is a credit to our teachers and parents that each Year group worked so well together and represented Peak School with pride. The instructors I spoke to at the different camps all talked about how impressed they were with our children and one group even thanked me as they "needed a week like this, after some of the other school groups we have had in the past few weeks". This says a lot about our children and staff and it is a timely reminder just how special Peak School is.

On Saturday was another reminder of just how special Peak School is as we celebrated our 100 Year Birthday with a Gala Dinner. It was a tremendous evening and was supported with over 200 guests made up of past and present parents, alumni, community members and current staff. Our PTA continue to work tirelessly on our behalf purely to benefit our children and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Katrina, Kate, Nicci and the rest of the team for another outstanding effort.

Have a great weekend everybody.

Special Announcement
We can now officially inform you that Catalina Abel is pregnant and will be taking maternity leave from March 9, 2012 until the end of the academic year (she will be returning for the last week of term 3 where she will team teach with her replacement).  This won't come as a surprise to some of you as you may have heard through mutual friends e.g. netball or you have seen Catalina recently!   I'm sure you will join me in congratulating Catalina (and her partner Jon) as we wish them all the very best for the birth of their first child.
PTA News
Dear Parents

Peak School PTA would like to say a huge “Thank you” to all the parents (past & present), alumni and staff who joined us at the Gala Dinner to celebrate our 100th Anniversary at Café Deco last Saturday. We had an amazing evening of entertainment and the atmosphere was wonderful.

A special thanks to our fabulous class mums who gathered together 12 luxury hampers from our classes, which were raffled on the night and raised over HK$30,000. This will go into our centenary fund which provides a Specialist Artist in Residence for the children of Peak School each year.

Our next event will be hosting drinks at the Nativity Service at St John’s Cathedral 6.30pm on Tuesday 13th December.

We look forward to seeing you all there to celebrate Christmas with the Peak School Community.

Healthy Snack and Lunch
We are committed to ‘Healthy eating’ at Peak School so please ensure that you provide a healthy balanced snack and lunch for your child. As a whole school, we shall be focusing on healthy eating and monitoring what the children bring to school for snack and lunch. Please do not send your child in with Chocolate bars, sweets or candies.
MLATS Training - Professional Development for Staff
All of our staff are currently involved in some MLATS (Maths) training (professional development) held at the ESF centre. These one or two day workshops focus on inquiry based maths as well as the importance of children having strong number knowledge and strategies. The courses started last week and run until the middle of next week and each of our classroom teachers have either attended the one day or two day training modules depending on their previous experience of these workshops.

This type of training is crucial in ensuring our teachers are exposed to the latest research and techniques on how best to successfully teach mathematics.

A sign up sheet will be sent around at a later date but please discuss the opportunity with your child. Parents are also invited to run with us as the staff will also be involved. Assistance will be needed each afternoon to help supervise the track around the Peak loop. Further information to come later.

Sports Day- Friday 25th November
Students are encouraged to wear suitable "extra attire" in the colour of their house. Eg Yellow ribbons in your hair, blue socks, red hats, green streamers/signs. I would like to extend this invitation to parents and staff as we cheer on our respective houses. Parking is always difficult at Stanley Ho Sports Centre. The advice to those driving is to park at Cyberport and walk back to Stanley Ho (10mins). We look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at the sports day this year. Sports Day - Start 9:45am, End 12:20pm.
