Principal's Message
Dear Parents

We come to the end of another successful term at Peak School. It has been a very busy but productive end of term with teachers busily collecting the necessary assessment data to complete the first two units of inquiry reports, our Senior Choir singing at both the Hong Kong Club and Matilda, our football and netball teams representing Peak School at recent tournaments, the wonderful nativity night at St John’s Cathedral and of course the many learning experiences our children are exposed to on a daily basis!
I have just experienced my first Term 1 at Peak School as Principal and it has highlighted to me how lucky we are. We have a school that is very well supported by our parents, a school full of engaged and enthusiastic learners and we have an extremely professional and very capable team of staff.
I hope you manage to spend time with your children during their Christmas break and I wish all of you a safe and happy holiday and a fantastic New Year.
Thank you for your continued support.

Uniform for Cooler Weather
The weather is changing and turning cooler so you may wish to purchase uniform items for your child to keep them warm. As weather is very changeable in Hong Kong we do not have a separate Summer and Winter Uniform and allow parents and children to decide which uniform items are appropriate. Just a reminder of items your child may like to wear in the coming months to keep warm:

Boys grey long trousers
Girls green long trousers
PE long green tracksuit pants
Sweatshirt
Fleece
Beanie

The uniform order form can be downloaded from the school website at

School Bus
Please complete the attached activity form once you know the timetable.

LSC/Individual Needs Provision
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian Wishart who has been working fulltime since Mid Term with our individual needs children. With the return of Cathy Boon to 1M, Helen Hattam is able to return to her original role. Helen will be working 3 days a week with our individual needs children. For the rest of the year our LSC/Individual Needs model will see the continuation of Mel Rushby (LSC Manager) managing the department. Helen Hattam (Individual Needs), Anne Button-Smith (Individual Needs with a focus on Gifted and Talented – 2 days a week), Deuel Dealino (EA) and Sharon Hunter (EA) make up the rest of the team.

Home Learning
As previously mentioned the staff have been working on a home learning procedure document to implement in Term 2. This document is attached to this newsletter and the new home learning initiative will start at the beginning of next term. We will review how it is all going later in the term or early Term 3 by getting feedback from parents and children. I have also attached a Home Learning PMI (Positive, Negative, Interesting) to highlight the many points of view around the world on this very topic.
PE Uniform Review
The Student Council has initiated the review of our School PE uniform. Mr Garnett and Miss Bloomfield have discussed the review with members of the Student Council and some members of the Student Council are in the process of developing a survey for the children. They are also looking to get feedback from parents regarding the PE uniform. The review will look at whether or not we should change the current PE uniform and if so, how this review stems from last year when one of our Year 6 Exhibition groups first raised the issue and pressed for the school to consider environmentally friendly shirts made from recycled plastic. These new shirts are currently used by our netball and football teams as well as our staff.
Mandarin News
This year, our China Day will be held on Friday, the 20th of January 2012. Children will be involved in activities all morning ranging from Chinese painting to puppet making and there will be an assembly in the afternoon. We are delighted to have pupils, teachers and parents from Shatin City One Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School to join our China Day again this year. They will be holding 3 workshops in the morning and performing for our children in the afternoon. As we have only one assembly planned this year, we apologize that it will only be possible to invite the parents of the children who are performing to join our assembly.

After the term break, all the class parents will receive a letter from us regarding the Chinese Banquet and parent helpers arrangements for the morning. Additional letters for the children who are performing in the Assembly will be given out separately.

Please be informed that everyone will need to either dress in red or an appropriate Chinese outfit on China Day.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year of 2012!
诞快乐!新年进步!
PE/Sport Upgrade
What a great term of sport for Peak School. A lovely way to finish off the year was with the Year 1/2 Sports Day. Congratulations to Kellet house for winning the house competition. A big thank you to parents for your support.

Another congratulations has to go to the netball club and football club that trained once a week this term. The commitment and improvement from all of the athletes in there respective sessions was wonderful and our results in the ESF tournaments were a big improvement from last year. Well Done. Could you please make sure that I have all the Peak School Sports kit returned by Friday.

The new sports clubs for next term - Running Club, Tag Rugby and Yr 4/5 Netball will all begin in Week 2 of Term 2. This will give everyone time to finalise their club and organise buses. Final chance to register for one of the above clubs via this LINK. Tag rugby is for those students who have been invited only. Notes for Tag rugby went home on Wednesday.

Merry Christmas to all and have a fantastic and active holiday.
